WE WORK TO EMPOWER, INCLUDE, AND RESPECT THE DEAF COMMUNITY.
Signing Solutions is a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) working across Cheshire and Merseyside.
We are passionate about improving access for the Deaf community to information that hearing people take for granted.
It’s a popular misconception that all Deaf people can read English. In fact, many Deaf people either cannot read English or do not fully understand written text. That is because for many Deaf people English is a second language, yet they are regularly expected to access and understand information in written English.
Technology today means there is no excuse for your information not being provided in British Sign language. We provide videos in British Sign Language that can be displayed on your website and social media accounts, or delivered through a QR code on leaflets, posters etc.
It’s important that Deaf people have the same access to information as hearing people to be able to make informed choices, access services, and feel safe in their community.
It’s particularly important that Deaf people can find information in a format they can understand, because unlike hearing people they don’t pick up information in passing from the radio and tv, or overheard conversations.
We are looking to provide information in British Sign Language to connect Deaf people to their wider community, to give them access to information that will in turn allow them to get involved and have a voice.
We support services and businesses to be more open and accessible to the Deaf community.
Advertising is the first step - letting people know what you have to offer. But, what would you do if a Deaf person contacts you?
We offer conversational sign language lessons tailored specifically to your service/business needs.
We can teach you and your staff some basic sign language to allow you to make that first contact and crucially to show people who are Deaf that your service/business values them too.
Deaf people who communicate using British Sign Language face barriers to information that make it difficult for them to access health and mental health services, police services, and social activities to name but a few.
Social inclusion and improved access to help and support would improve both the physical and mental health of Deaf people and subsequently improve their quality of life and life expectancy.
We will work for Deaf people, responding to the issues they raise and supporting them to challenge organisations to be more inclusive.
